BLANCPAIN - TRIBUTE TO FIFTY FATHOMS MIL-SPECTHE PREDATOR In the OCEAN DEPTHSOver Half a century following the birth from the first Fifty Fathoms, Blancpain pays homage to this legendary watch by unveiling a whole new timepiece inspired because of the original model together with the famous water-tightness indicator within the lower half of the dial.The Fifty Fathoms divers' watch, produced by Blancpain, features a rich and engaging history. It's determined by two events that emerged in parallel and later dovetailed. First, the projects launched by Jean-Jacques Fiechter (born in 1927), CEO of Blancpain for several decades (from 1950 to 1980) as well as a big fan of scuba, which triggered three patents, and more importantly for the first Fifty Fathoms model. Secondly, the investigation carried out by the founders of the French Navy's combat swimmers unit, set up in 1952, Robert Maloubier (1923-2015) and Claude Riffaud (1924-2016), to locate a reliable diving watch, and which triggered the 3 men meeting. The Fifty Fathoms was implemented through the French Navy in 1953. Between 1957 and 1958, the watch was given a water-tightness indicator, which turned from white to red when there was clearly liquid in the case. This has been the Fifty Fathoms MIL-SPEC 1. From 1958, the model had also been adopted with the US Navy, particularly by members of such elite groups because the UDT (Underwater Demolition Team) and the Navy SEALs. This version of the Fifty Fathoms could be the one who Blancpain is now celebrating, while using Tribute to Fifty Fathoms MIL-SPEC, an exclusive limited edition with 500 pieces.Although this new watch borrows features from the ancestor of 1953, mainly the water-rightness indicator, watches it also advantages of the actual latest technology. Beginning the black, notched, unidirectional revolving bezel involved, pre-loaded with a scratch-proof sapphire glass ring and luminous markers - required for keeping track of time when diving. The steel case for the Tribute to Fifty Fathoms MIL-SPEC model is 40mm across and waterproof down to 300m.
